The Importance of Intraoperative Plain Radiographs during Cochlear Implant Surgery in Patients with Normal Anatomy

چکیده

Although malpositioning of the cochlear implant (CI) electrode array is rare in patients with normal anatomy, when occurring it may result reduced hearing outcome. In addition to intraoperative electrophysiologic tests, imaging an important modality assess correct placement. The purpose this report was incidence and describe cases which plain radiographs detected a malpositioned array. Intraoperative anti-Stenver’s view X-rays are conducted routinely all CI surgeries our tertiary center before awakening patient breaking sterile field. Data undergoing 399 were retrospectively analyzed. A total 355 had inner ear temporal bone anatomy. Patients intra or extracochlear arrays demonstrated X-ray described. There four malposition out implantations anatomy (1.1%): two tip fold-overs, one placement partial insertion. All electrodes reinserted immediately; repeated achieved good function. valuable confirm location, allowing correction conclusion surgery. These cheaper, faster, emit much less radiation than other options, making them viable cost-effective tool

Intraoperative Facial Nerve Monitoring During Cochlear Implant Surgery

Iatrogenic facial nerve injury is one of the most severe complications of cochlear implantation (CI) surgery. Intraoperative facial nerve monitoring (IFNM) is used as an adjunctive modality in a variety of neurotologic surgeries. The purpose of this retrospective study was to assess whether the use of IFNM is associated with postoperative facial nerve injury during CI surgery. The medical chart...

Localization of cochlear implant electrodes in radiographs.

Multielectrode cochlear implantation is the most effective treatment for profound sensorineural hearing loss. In vivo three-dimensional 3-D localization of cochlear implant electrodes is important for modeling of the electrical field in the cochlea, design of electrode arrays, and may improve speech processor programming for better speech recognition. The prerequisite for 3-D localization of th...

The Cochlear Implant

The studies on cochlear implants have been conducted in the United States, Austria, Brasil, France, Finland, and some other countries. Up to now, this technique does not seem to have a wide spread application. Indeed it can only apply cases of deafness still presenting sufficient neural remnants to transmit the message. Moreover, the patient must be totally deaf( quasi complete loss of har cel...
